Happy New Year to all of you. With the New Year, of course I have to write a new novel. And I've started. The working title is SIBLINGS. It does what it says on the tin. The main thrust of the story will be the tension between middle-aged sister and brother who inherited three years ago.
She is a successful artist. He is jealous and gives up his teaching job to write a block-buster. How will all this pan out? That is the task in front of me now. Will take a while to write so don't expect anything before the Spring at least. If you've got any ideas, don't hesitate to let me know what they are. You can contact me on this website through the contact page. Bye for now.
I thought we'd escaped the snow in Kendal, but this morning, looking out the window, I can see rooftops turn white. This is a great time of the year for writing when everything outside is dark and cold. My novel, SWAP, is now being finally published and will be available soon after New Year. It has had a very thorough check-through by various pre-readers, so I'm fairly confident that errors will be few and far between. My novella, STATE OF MIND, is now being checked by my excellent pre-readers. I can foresee this, too, will be available a little later in January. Remember my novels can be purchased from www.feedaread.com. Search Julia Patten and all available books will pop up.
Now I'm thinking ahead to what comes next. Maybe a murder story. Haven't written one of those for a little while. If you have any ideas don't hesitate to contact me. Feedback is always welcome. Go to my contact page. Until 2018, happy and healthy New Year to all my visitors.

Hi. It's that time of year when I would like to wish you health and happiness for Christmas and 2018. I've taken my time this year writing my novels, instead of going like a bat out of hell. I am now awaiting a copy of my new novel, SWAP. This will be my final chance to check everything and make changes if need be. Hope not. There comes a moment when I've read through work far too many times and I wish to concentrate on something new.
I am now quite a way through my novella, STATE OF MIND, psychological suspense. Below is he prologue for anyone interested: (you may have to click READ MORE button). Remember all my novels can be purchased from www.feedaread.com. Just search Julia Patten. First pages can be read without obligation. Best wishes for now. Julie
PROLOGUE
'I'm sorry Mrs. Raison. That's all I can tell you,' said the psychologist. 'We know it was a very distressing experience for Jenna, but we can't really say what the repercussions will be. We only know she's well enough to go home now.'
Mr and Mrs Raison sat opposite, hanging on every word.
'Because Jenna's only three, there's every chance she'll get over it, but we can't be sure. For example, triggers in the environment could affect her.'
'You mean like going near water?' suggested Mr Raison.
'Maybe but I doubt it would be as simple as that. More likely to be a combination of factors, such as stress or poor physical health. Best thing is to keep an eye on her. Bring her back if you think she's getting anxious or withdrawn. We can arrange counselling. If she reaches school age without any problem, I think we can safely say she'll be fine. One way of judging her state of mind is to look at her drawings.'
The psychologist reached across his desk. 'If you ever see anything like this,' he said, handing across a sheet of white paper, 'you need to get in touch right away.'
Mrs Raison drew back. 'Jenna didn't do that, surely?'
'She did,' said the psychologist. 'It shows her mind trying to grapple with her terrifying experience.' When the conversation drew to a close, Mr and Mrs Raison were led to the ward where Jenna was dressed and ready to leave.
