Seventy-nine-year-old Donald White likes to visit the far side of the lake, the quiet shore where he sits on a makeshift bench in a derelict concrete bunker looking out across the water. What draws him there? Is it the peace and quiet, family memories or is there something deeper pricking at his conscience?

At the request of his doctor, daughter, Alison, reluctantly leaves London to organise daily care for him. She finds his senile behaviour emotionally draining and, at times, insufferable and berates her younger brother, Steve, for not taking his share of responsibility, believing he has received large sums of money from Dad.

Finding daily care is not that easy, but there is part time help from kindly volunteer, Rachael who forms a good relationship with Donald.

With a debt to clear in London, and still no full time care, Alison grudgingly stays in Brasby. She finds local employment, renews friendship with Jenny in the teashop and dips her toe in internet dating. But the more involved she becomes with village life, the more she realises there is a conspiracy to withhold life-changing information from her.

Will my poetry book, HOTCHPOTCH, eventually reach Russia?

At The Mortal Man hotel, Troutbeck, my parting gift to performer, 'Spider,' soon to teach English as a foreign language in Moscow, was a copy of my book.

There was an enthusiastic audience for spoken word contributions from Kate Barkes, 'Spider' and myself. As usual I chose from WORD PIE, HOTCHPOTCH AND TALL TALES.

Spoken Word every Thursday evening, 9pm
