A collection of poets gathered this evening at the Mortal Man Hotel, Troutbeck.nr Windermere, www.themortalman.co.uk

Karen Lloyd, Harriet Fraser and Sean Hurt presented their own original work while bubbly Mortal Man proprietor, Kate Barkes, gave her own inimitable presentation of some classic monologues. Lisa Smallshaw also joined us to read some clever ditties. I read verses from my books: Hotchpotch and Wordpie, as well as a gruesome short story, Watch the Birdie, from Tall Tales. Spoken word night, every Thursday, 9pm. Come along and listen.....for free.

An entertaining and informative evening at the Castle Street writing group, thanks to our brilliant leader, Chris Tyler and his very clever, hospitable helper, Adrian Attwood who presented his contribution with gusto. Just a small group for a change but some useful critique. It was monologue night and I put forward a chapter of the novel I am working on, FAR SIDE OF THE LAKE. In this piece, my main character stands alone by her mother's grave in a therapeutic one-sided conversation. She recalls how difficult it's been looking after Dad and how little help, brother Steve is, amongst other things. No more meetings now until September.

A lively and very warm evening at The Three Mariners in Lancaster with Big Charlie Poet and his open mic night, 'Working Title.' Listened to lots of excellent poets. I read three poems from my book of rhymes, WORD PIE. The first was THE NORTH WESTERLY which I wrote in response to the continuous biting winds this Spring. The other two were WHO'S ONLINE, a rather cheeky view of online dating, and HIT THE ROAD MAC, almost a rap. There was a very good atmosphere and everyone got rapturous applause. I even managed to negotiate the nearby gated car park.
